WTH can present itself less in the Corona year

Quo vadis Tade Fairs?

(mud)–  Does it take place? Or does it not take place? - Walter Thieme checks his emails every morning. Is there a cancellation today? Nobody knows exactly. At his planned trade fair appearances, the WTH boss feels a bit like playing a lottery: Corona times are increasingly moving large and small, national and international exhibitions into the next year. Or canceled entirely. Quo vadis trade fair events - more virtual?

For participating companies, trade fairs are something like the nerve on which their own economic development depends. “We have been visiting exhibitions at home and abroad since the beginning of our company history. That is almost indispensable for us, ”says Thieme. Now Corona has turned everything upside down. Will the trade fairs for which Thieme has been investing heavily for years no longer exist? Will the trade fair companies increasingly withdraw into virtual events in the future?

WTH recently received a message from the organizers of the “Fakuma” in Friedrichshafen: The fair that Thieme’s believes is important will not take place in 2020. "We have decided to" postpone this year's 27th Fakuma to 2021, "say the senders. - Finally, they offer: So that you "still benefit a little from the planned Fakuma 2020", Thieme can participate with his presence at the "Fakuma Virtuell". This enables him to present new products, product or trade fair highlights to all visitors on the organizer's homepage. Greetings from virtual fair?

For Walter Thieme, it is clear that WTH will hopefully participate at the trade fairs that were originally planned

to take place. Thieme: “It remains open whether this 'analogue' trade fair event will change in the medium term. So: regional versus international, virtual or real, intercontinental against continental, or will the intervals change in the future - from annually to biennial or multi-year? "

According to Thieme, spatial competition among the trade fair organizers could, in the worst case, lead to a certain location cannibalism: “Plastpol in Poland would be an example for me. In the face of corona-related turbulence, new providers could get involved and offer or relocate certain events to other appropriately tested exhibition locations. This could bring advantages for both exhibitors and visitors when arriving and carrying them out.
